Suffolk County Court House (fourth) opens.

December 20, 1836

[1845-Lyndon] Architect: Solomon Willard. Known as the Stone Court House, it is designed in the Greek Revival style and located at today’s 26 Court Street (then 1 Court Square). Its construction is supervised by Alexander Parris and it is built by Gridley Bryant. Described in one account as “A dark, gloomy and inconvenient building,” it is the scene of a number of anti-slavery riots in the 1850s. The court moves to Pemberton Square (fifth) in 1895,* and the building is torn down to make way for the construction of the City Hall Annex in 1914.*
